Living in today's complicated and dynamic world can be challenging and stressful. To paraphrase author Scott Peck in his book "The Road Less Traveled", "Life is difficult, but once you realize that life is difficult it no longer becomes difficult." The decision to seek counseling can be a gift to yourself. I provide common sense, solution focused counseling and support for individuals and couples. A collaborative therapeutic, and completely confidential relationship with a counselor can empower you to explore your own strengths and weaknesses, and foster growth and change.
Counseling Philosophy
My counseling philosophy is primarily based on the existential approach, which follows the premise that people form their lives by the choices they make. This view reflects the idea that people are indeed the authors of their lives and that one's behavior is dependent on personal decisions. Failing to make meaningful choices can create conflict and stress. In my role as a counselor, I strive to help the client regain their ability to act in their own best interest to make better choices.
In this endeavor, I value the uniqueness of each client and offer a nurturing environment for the client to explore their own strengths and abilities to grow and change. I work with the client to find attainable goals, encourage their follow through and acknowledge their progress. My belief is that the relationship between counselor and client is vital to the success of the counseling process. I work to build a safe and trusting relationship while ensuring confidentiality.
A large part of my practice is devoted to working with couples. My belief is that most relationship conflict can be resolved, bringing back the love and respect. My approach is positive in process, and designed to provide tools to enhance and sustain a trusting,respectful and fulfilling reationship.
Through guiding, encouraging, supporting and teaching, I instill hope for the client to attain a better quality of life.
