Shelby Brooks of Cumming, Georgia has been selected to perform as a member of the Colts Drum and Bugle Corps. of Dubuque, Iowa.

She is the daughter of Scott and Cathy Brooks also of Cumming and a graduating senior at Forsyth Central High School where she serves as captain for the Flash of Crimson drumline.

The Colts are named “Iowa’s Ambassadors of Music” by the Governor of Iowa and are an elite competitive drum and bugle corps currently ranked in the top 14 in world class competition.

Members are selected through a competitive audition process. Young people from 33 states and overseas have auditioned this year.

The Colts membership experience is an intensive, challenging and high achievement environment where life and leadership skills are taught.

"I am absolutely thrilled about being part of the colts this summer,” said Brooks. “I know it will be an incredible learning opportunity as well as a chance to grow as a musician and I can't wait to see how far we go."

The organization attracts highly successful young people. The average GPA in the Colts is over 3.5 and more than 95% of members in an average year are in college or college bound, compared to the national average of college attendance after high school of 43%.
