The City of Cumming has the BEST 4th of July Celebration around!! Our Independence Day Celebration begins on July 3rd at 6:00 p.m. with various vendors including food and drink, inflatables for kids, a live band, wonderful fireworks display along with an all age dance contest following the fireworks. Bring your blanket, set out on the lawn and enjoy the festivities. There is no admission or parking fee for the July 3rd celebration! On July 4th come and enjoy the famous Steam Engine Parade beginning at 10:00 a.m. The Parade will include steam engines, antique tractors, antique cars and many other floats decorated in the spirit of the holiday. Following the Steam Engine Parade you can take a closer look at the steam engines, tractors and cars at the Fairgrounds.

Where does the Parade Begin? What is the Path of the Parade?

Where are some of the best places to sit (with shade!)

Thx, ~~Cindy

Hi Cindy....great questions!

The parade runs from Forsyth Central High School to the fairgrounds, although the steam engines don't enter the parade until just before the square. Its a straight shot with no turns up tribble gap road, behind the courthouse, and down Castleberry road to the fairgrounds. The official best place to park is at the fairgrounds, where its only a short walk up to the parade area, but there are plenty of vacant lots along the parade route. There are also plenty of shady spots along the route, but getting there early will get you first choice. We usually like to sit directly behind the courthouse. One additional word of caution...Bring earplugs! The steam engines are VERY loud.

We've gone the last 2 years to the parade. Here are some of my thought on where to sit. We sat closer to the high school the first year, not understanding that we would miss the steam engines completely, so that is good information to know. They start in the parking lot behind the Bank of America building. Also remember that this is what I call a "candy parade". There are tons and tons of candy thrown to the crowd. Here's what I discovered last year... sit on the east side of the street. That way you don't have to look straight into the morning sun. I think the best place to sit is on the sidewalk next to the retaining wall for the pharmacy (I think it's called Goodson Drugs?) parking lot. There's really only room there for one row of seats, so you don't get a bunch of people crowding and pushing in front of you. We DIDN'T sit there and regretted it the whole parade. :-) This year we will be IN the parade, so we're good to go!! Look out for Cubscout Pack 3740...that'll be us!!

This will be our first year going to the fireworks show. Where is the best spot to sit to see the fireworks and do we need to set out our chairs early? Thanks Megan

We had a blast at the parade last year. Yes, definitely park closer so you don't miss the steam engines. This is the main attraction to the parade. I saw a 4th of July event list at http://www.CummingConnect.com Hope you have a great Independence Day!

As of this writing 857pm, there is still plenty of parking available at the tyson plant, and plenty of places to set out your blanket or chair

We have lived in Forsyth county since 1998 and this was a great show this year. Does anyone know the name of the Pyrotechic group who did the fireworks this years. They were terrific.

Thank you to the city of Cumming for a wonderful weekend. I had so much fun and enjoyed the time Friday night and then at the parade on Saturday.

The city is to be commended for doing this for the people of Forsyth county!

Another great festive 4th. We had a great time both Friday and Saturday and once again props to the City for putting together some top notch festivities.

Now there are some minor things that the citizens need to take care of during these events and that parents need to be more attending to their children and ensure their kids show respect for other children. Many times at the beginning of the parade we had two girls continue to jump in front of our 3 year old and the little boy who was next to us. Then towards the end of the parade a group of teenagers (and sadly some adults) are chasing down some of the floats that are giving away t-shirts, frisbees, and coozies. One teenage boy jumped in front of the little boy and his dad who were sitting next to us and grabbed the item that a person from the float was tossing directly to the little boy. Thankfully my wife and son grabbed an extra item from the same float and gave it to the little boy. Some parents need to make their kids show a little respect for others and not be so rude. There's plenty of candy and items to go around.

Other than that the 4th was great.

Not to be too critical, but I witnessed the BETTER and the BEST and the following statement is just not totally correct:

"(The City of Cumming has the BEST 4th of July Celebration around!!)"

Not so in my opinion, but the 4th of July Celebration in Cumming was very good.......

Instead a BETTER 4th of July Celebration was in Alpharetta.

Instead the BEST 4th of July Celebration was at the "First Redeemer Church"

Well BB, I appreciate the city doing this. Ask your commissioner next time you see him how much the County spends on celebrating our independence. I say you need to go on down to Alpharetta and watch the show or go on over the Redeemer (a great place for sure) as you seem to be one of those selfish folks that can't give compliments.

Surely you don't go to that fine church do you? I don't think they teach the attitude you have down there.

Thank you to the city! I appreciate you.
