Flag football tournaments, carnival festivities and plenty of great food will fill the day on December 5, 2009, as the community gathers for the Helping Hands Holiday Bowl 4 Trey and Holiday Festival 4 Trey. Benefitting Helping Hands Ministries, proceeds will support the medical fund for Trey Rood, West Forsyth High senior, honor student and football standout who is undergoing treatment for melanoma cancer.
Both events will be held at West Forsyth High School with the 7 vs. 7 Flag Football Showdown kicking off at 8 a.m. and continuing until 4 p.m on the West High Wolverines athletic field. The festival opens at 10 a.m. and promises a fair-like atmosphere that will include fun for every member of the family. Children will enjoy pony rides, a bounce house and many other activities, while adults can browse among craftsmen displaying their holiday arts and crafts. Everyone will enjoy the food and beverages available from different vendors.
The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Department will also attend the festivities and present a demonstration that features their K-9 Unit, which consists of both
bloodhound and dual purpose canine teams used to track lost, missing and wanted persons, seek crime evidence and lost property and locate illegal narcotics. Learn more about the highly trained dogs that help protect the community by seeing this fascinating demonstration. The sheriff’s department will also address their commitment to child safety by offering fingerprinting services for children. All parents are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to have their children fingerprinted.
Area youth football teams, groups, families, adults and young ladies are invited to compete in the 7 vs. 7 Flag Football Showdown. All games will consist of two 13 minute halves, be played on a 50 by 30 yard field and use regulation size balls. In the event of a tie, a Kansas City tie breaker will be implemented, with each team being given a chance to score starting at the 25 yard line. Divisions for the showdown are 8th grade and under, 9th through 12th grade, adult/family and girls 12th grade and under. Trophies will be awarded to winning teams in each division. A $25.00 donation per player is required and will cover a commemorative Helping Hands Holiday Bowl 4 Trey t-shirt, a two game minimum tournament guarantee and two drink tickets.
