Forsyth County Republican Party Announces Resolution Regarding Lanier Golf Course

A Resolution by the Forsyth County Republican Party concerning Lanier Golf Course and Surrounding Community

WHEREAS, the citizens in the communities surrounding the Lanier Golf Course paid a premium for homes bordering a golf course, and

WHEREAS, the homes in this area were marketed to potential buyers as being part of a golfing community, and

WHEREAS, the land use guidelines and maps at one time indicated the most appropriate use of this property is that of “private parkland”, or golf course, and

WHEREAS, the Forsyth County sub-area planning committee, the sub-area steering committee, and the professional consultants hired by the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners recommended the most appropriate use of this property to be that of “private parkland”, or golf course, and

WHEREAS, the Forsyth County Board of Planning and Zoning agreed with the recommendations of the sub-area planning committee, the sub-area steering committee and the paid consultants that the most appropriate use of this property to be that of “private parkland”, or golf course, and

WHEREAS, the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners discarded the recommendation of the sub-area planning committee, and changed the designated use of this property to that of “activity center”, and

WHEREAS, the “activity center” land use classification provides for commercial development and high density residential development such as apartments and town homes, and

WHEREAS, the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners sought no additional public input prior to making this change, and

WHEREAS, the owners of the Lanier Golf Course have expressed a desire to sell this property for future high density residential and commercial development, and

WHEREAS, the homeowners in the surrounding communities will suffer a reduction in property values and severe damage to their quality of life should this property convert to high density residential and commercial use, and

WHEREAS, the sale of this golf course and rezoning of this property to a different use poses a precedent that is potentially damaging to all Forsyth County homeowners, particularly those who reside in golfing or other communities which advertise large amenities packages, and

WHEREAS, the Forsyth County Republican Party recognizes this threat to all Forsyth County homeowners,

BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Forsyth County Republican Party stands in solidarity with the homeowners in the communities surrounding the Lanier Golf Course,

AND FURTHER, the Forsyth County Republican Party commends and supports the grass roots movement of the citizens of these communities, and we encourage our members and supporters to join these communities in their fight to protect and preserve their neighborhoods.
