Last week numerous State Farm Insurance employees and agents, along with members of the Johns Creek business community, had the great opportunity to hear from Gubernatorial Candidates Sonny Perdue and Mark Taylor as well as Lieutenant Governor Candidate Casey Cagle in one sitting.
Governor Perdue focused on progress the State of Georgia has made in recent years under his leadership. He remarked upon improved SAT scores and the 70% graduation rate which has increased from 63% three years ago, as well as improved customer service in driver’s license renewals. Governor Perdue also fielded questions on his plans for relieving traffic congestion. His remarks on the success of teleworking received a warm reception from hundreds of State Farm employees.
Lt. Governor Taylor announced his recommendation for the death penalty for repeat offender child molesters in Georgia. Remarking there will be “no safe haven in Georgia” for child molesters, Taylor added that there are currently 5 other states that allow for the death penalty in such cases.
Senator Casey Cagle, Republican candidate for Lt. Governor, enlightened the crowd with background on his character including the fact that he was raised by a single mother and no stranger to work. Senator Cagle supports job growth in Georgia and finding ways to lower taxes for the people—not just corporations; excellence in education; and keeping Georgia safe not only from crime but also disaster and discussed the significance of Homeland Security for our Georgia ports. He also expressed the importance of family values.
“Our sponsorship of this forum provided an opportunity for employees, agents and local residents to ask questions of the candidates and really get educated on where these candidates stand on the issues that affect our state as we move into the future,” stated Alpharetta State Farm agent Harry Hudson.
