Three assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA) paid a five-day visit to the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office last week. The visit was part of the Sheriff’s Office’s application process to be re-accredited, which must occur every three years.

During their visit, the team of law enforcement professionals from three different agencies reviewed 446 operational files and conducted numerous interviews with Sheriff’s Office employees.

The team’s final report will recommend the Sheriff’s Office for full re-accreditation at the next meeting of the CALEA Commission.

In order to be accredited, a law enforcement agency must meet exacting professional standards. In Georgia, only nine sheriff’s offices are accredited. There are 159 sheriff’s office in Georgia, one in each county.
