An 18 year-old Forsyth County student died early this morning in a single-vehicle crash in south Forsyth County.

The victim, Amanda Marysue Garrett, was traveling southbound on Majors Road when the 1995 Mustang GT convertible she was driving left the roadway, struck a concrete culvert, went through a fence and came to rest upside down in Big Creek. Miss Garrett was killed instantly.

According to Forsyth County Traffic Specialist Cpl. Chris Shelton, the Mustang was exceeding the posted 25 mile-per-hour speed limit, and that was a contributing cause to the wreck. The crash occurred just after 7:30 a.m. in good weather conditions and on a dry road.

There were no passengers in the Mustang, Shelton said, and no charges will be filed in connection with the crash. There was no indication of alcohol or drugs present, Shelton added.

Miss Garrett was a senior at Forsyth Academy.
