The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office has been awarded a grant from the Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) in the amount of $20,900, Sheriff Ted Paxton has announced.

The grant, which is part of GEMA’s Homeland Security Local Agency Assistance Program, will be used to pay for a “Live Scan System,” which allows the Sheriff’s Office to instantly transmit fingerprints and other identifying information to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (F.B.I.) and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (G.B.I.).

According to Sheriff Paxton, the Live Scan System will greatly speed up the process for citizens who are applying for gun permits and other background checks which are required by law, such as applicants for adoptions and other job applicants.
