The Atlanta Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints located on Barfield Road in Sandy Springs will close on June 30 for approximately 18 months. Extensive interior renovation work will be done during the closure. The Atlanta Temple was originally dedicated June 1, 1983 and has been in use since that time. Upon completion of the renovation, the temple will host a public open house.

Latter-Day Saint temples are sacred structures that are dedicated as Houses of the Lord Jesus Christ. They are holy places of worship where individuals make sacred covenants with God. Because temple worship is important in both the Old and New Testaments and because the LDS church claims to be the re-established or restored original Christian Church, it follows that temple worship is central to the LDS faith.

Latter Day Saint Temples are accessible to church members all over the world. There are currently 129 temples in use. An additional 17 temples have been announced or are under construction in locations as varied as Quetzaltenango, Guatemala; Kiev, Ukraine; and Rome, Italy.

Because making covenants with God is such a solemn responsibility, individuals cannot enter the temple until they have spiritually prepared themselves and been active members of the Church for at least a year. During the public open house, prior to rededication services, all interested visitors will be invited to attend tours of the temple.

Better hurry up you non-believers...the mormons wont let this stay open for very long to us heathens. Probably because they dont really want anyone to understand what they actually do in those "temples" Go to saintsalive.com to get the real story. These are the false religion as prophesied in the bible. Mormons read about what others are saying...dont believe what your elders are telling you.

Jay, Hate much? It is obvious you did not even read the article. Who cares what they believe this is the USA!! As long as thet are not sacrificing people and stuff who cares. If you are a Christian maybe you should show love and compation for others. The Hate you exhibit... would Jesus do that? Probably not.

I think that learning about other cultures (including religious ones) is imparative to American cultural awareness. The opening of the Mormon temple is an opportunity for non-Mormons to broaden their awareness if they choose. I agree with Tom. Who cares what the Mormons think? The claim to be Christians, and in my book, that is all that truly matters.

Jay,

I once read, "The only reason any one would wish to silence an argument is that they are afraid the truth is not with them." Hatred and fear this strong does not come from Jesus Christ. You need to ask yourself where it comes from. I feel sorry for you.

Jay,

That's funny you should tell me to disbeleive the Elders. Any time I want I am invited to go to the Lord and ask him if what they say is true. Over and over again he answers yes. I know the gospel of Jesus Christ is true. I asked for myself and received personal revelation. The bible says each of us is entitled to personal revelation. I don't trust any man to tell me about God. I do go to Father in Heaven and verify what I learn. Men are falliable. Our Father knows everything. We are all brothers and sisters. I love you and will be praying for you, Jay. I think I will even put you on the temple's prayer roll so you will be prayed for every hour.

The Mormon church was founded upon a person (Joseph Smith) who claimed he saw both God and his son Jesus. Anyone that has read the bible knows that this is impossible. He also indicated that he received the golden tablets in which he was able to translate what was written on these to be the Mormon bible. It strangely resembles a book of fiction that was written by a 19th century fiction writer.
Nobody and I mean nobody has been able to verify the historical nonsense that the book of mormon states has taken place. While every day, archaelogical discoveries verify the historical facts of the bible. If one would believe the book of mormon one would think we would be able to find one thread of evidence of archaelogical value that would confirm that at least one of the events as outlined in the mormon book... but it hasn't and never will since that book was a unpublished fictional book that was obtained by Riordan. Mormons believe their top guy is a prophet. A false prophet is described as: 1. Speak in the name of the Lord and not some other god 2. Have a message in accord with God's revelaed truth in Scripture 3. Give predictions of future events that come true exactly as stated A false prophet is described as: 1. Self deceived - as Jeremiah 23:9-11 points out, their messages come psychologically from within their own minds and are not from God 2. Liars - In 1 John 2:22 "Who is a liar? It is the man who denies that Jesus is the Christ. Such a man is the antichrist -- he denise the Father and Son. 3. Heretics - False prophets preach heresy and divide the church . Of them, John said "they went out from us, but they did not really belon tgo us" (1 John 2:19). The apostle Peter said, "There will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies...These men blaspheme in matters they do not understand" (2 Peter 2:1,12) 4. Scoffers - Some teachers do not necessarily promote false teaching but simply reject the truth. Other indications include: Blasphemers Seducers Reprobates I believe the Mormon church belongs to the latter and is one of the false churches that were prophesized in the bible. Take or leave it -- it is not hate -- it is what the bible prophesizes.
They are not Christians - they don't believe in the same bible that christains use. Where in the bible can you find any reference to the mormon bible. Doesnt the bible predict the future...if the future had a rebirth of the church under the mormon banner wouldnt it been said. The answer is yes...and it does...it predicts false churches in the end times. The mormon church is a false church no matter how you slice it, parse it or ignore it under the banner of diversity. Please if you are a doubting mormon go to saintsalive.com and read more...you owe to yourself and your family.

Interesting thoughts Jay. Here is a quote straight from lds.org that talks about how The Book of Mormon was foretold in the Bible...

<How has the prophecy in Ezekiel 37:15–20 been fulfilled? (See 1 Nephi 5:14; 2 Nephi 3:12; D&C 27:5. Explain that the word stick in these verses refers to a type of wooden writing tablet commonly used in Ezekiel’s day. The stick of Judah symbolizes the Bible, and the stick of Joseph symbolizes the Book of Mormon.)

Elder Boyd K. Packer said: “The stick or record of Judah—the Old Testament and the New Testament—and the stick or record of Ephraim—the Book of Mormon, which is another testament of Jesus Christ—are now woven together in such a way that as you pore over one you are drawn to the other; as you learn from one you are enlightened by the other. They are indeed one in our hands. Ezekiel’s prophecy now stands fulfilled” (in Conference Report, Oct. 1982, 75; or Ensign, Nov. 1982, 53). >

Good luck in your quest for "truth"...
