More than 100 golfers turned out Monday morning to participate in the Fourth Annual Sheriff Ted Paxton Golf Tournament for the Georgia Sheriffs’ Youth Homes.

The outing, which was a scramble format, raised more than $15,000 for the Youth Homes, according to Sheriff Paxton, and was the most successful one held to date.

The winning team consisted of Duane Piper, Travis Spriggs, Troy Brumbelow and Frank Heitman. They posted a low gross score of 55. Second place honors went to a team consisting of Mike Leathers, Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Robbie Hamrick, Walton County Sheriff Joe Chapman, Mike Leathers of the Georgia Sheriffs’ Association and Brent Boutwell. The second place team posted a low gross score of 57, just two strokes behind the winners.

The Georgia Sheriffs’ Youth Homes serves 103 children from age 6 to 18 in five facilities around the State of Georgia. The purpose of the Homes, which depend solely on charitable funding, is to provide a safe, loving home environment for children who have been neglected, abused or abandoned. Of the children currently under the care of the Homes, 13 are in college, one of whom is in medical school.
