Cumming, Georgia – May 20, 2009 – The Cumming Gymsations Level 2 competitive team took home their first state title at the Amateur Athletics Union (AAU) Levels 2 & 3 Georgia State Gymnastics meet.
During the weekend of April 18th & 19th, the Georgia AAU Gymnastics Levels 2 and 3 State meet was hosted by Spivey Gymnastics International in Winder, GA. To add some perspective, the State Gymnastics Meet is the season finale for AAU within the state of Georgia. For the Level 2 Gymsations, the total competition consisted of 23 teams and 225 participants, from all around the state.
In order for a team to win the state title, they must have the highest team score. The team score is comprised of the top three scores earned by the team on each event. With this, the Gymsations placed 2nd on Vault, with a score of 28.825, 2nd on Bars, with a score of 28.925, 2nd on Beam, with a score of 28.950, and 2nd on Floor, with a score of 29.300. The tremendous consistency on all events vaulted the team to a 1st Place overall ranking against the other 22 teams with a final score of 116.000.
In analyzing the team score, there were several 1st Place All-Around finishes – Rachel Smith, age 8 (38.825) and Sienna Schreiber, age 7B (38.775); 2nd Place All-Around finishes – Alexis Young, age 8C (38.200) and Lexi Somoza, age 7B (37.925); 3rd Place All-Around finishes – Isabella Larsen, age 10 (37.250).
In addition to the All-Around, the team landed several 1st Place finishes on individual events – Vault: Rachel Smith, Sienna Schreiber; Bars: Rachel Smith, Sienna Schreiber, Sara Michelle Price, Isabella Larsen; Beam: Alexis Young; Floor: Rachel Smith, Sienna Schreiber. 2nd Place finishes – Bars: Addison Holler, Alexis Young, Lexi Somoza; Beam: Rachel Smith, Sienna Schreiber; Floor: Alexis Young. 3rd Place finishes – Vault: Ginny Grice, Faithe Landi, Lexi Somoza, Kieran Miller; Bars: Faithe Landi, Chloe Pressley; Beam: Kamdyn Radake; Floor: Erin Geoghan. All nineteen gymnasts placed in the top ten!
The Gymsations Level 2 team is coached by Deven Pressley, who has been the Cumming Gymsations Director for ten years. Paul Daniel, Cathy Campfield, and Lauren Weeks are assistant coaches for the Level 2 team.
