Channel 2 WSB-TV has announced that Justin Farmer will join Jovita Moore to co-anchor Channel 2 Action News at 5 p.m. starting January 4, 2010. John Pruitt, anchor for the 5 p.m. newscast, will continue co-anchoring the 6 and 11 p.m. newscasts with Monica Pearson.

“Justin walked right in and immediately made significant contributions to our team,” said Marian Pittman, news director for Channel 2 Action News in making the announcement. “His connections in Atlanta run deep, as do his interests in what makes the area tick,” Pittman continued. “He’s an outstanding journalist. To say he was born to do this might sound like a cliché, but in Justin’s case, it’s a fact.”

Justin rounds out the anchor team of Monica, John and Jovita. In my opinion, they make up the best anchor team in America,” said Bill Hoffman, vice president and general manager for Channel 2 WSB-TV.

“Working with Justin over the last year and a half I can tell you that he has the experience and knowledge to handle the anchoring side of news reporting,” said Pruitt. “He’s very well rounded and a dedicated journalist with an insatiable appetite for getting to the heart of a story.”

“I have been working for this opportunity throughout my career,” commented Farmer. “We have a successful, collaborative environment with a lot of momentum,” he added. “WSB-TV means a lot to me. This is the station that sets the bar on local commitment and coverage.”

Farmer, an Atlanta native, came to Channel 2 in June 2008. Since joining the station, he has traveled to Brazil for a series on renewable energy, and been in Washington D.C., to cover President Obama’s inauguration. He has anchored breaking news, moderated a recent Atlanta mayoral debate and spearheaded coverage of the struggling economy in our region.

Prior to joining Channel 2, Farmer anchored the morning and noon newscasts for WFAA in Dallas. In 2006, his morning newscast was awarded an Emmy for Best Newscast.

Farmer also worked for local stations in Denver and Oklahoma City. Early in his career, he was with CNN Sports in Atlanta.

Born at Georgia Baptist Hospital, he grew up in Atlanta, Dunwoody and Alpharetta. Justin graduated from Darlington in Rome and then Boston College where he earned a degree in political science. Farmer and his family live in the city.
