Looking for the perfect gift for the outdoor adventurers on your shopping list? From hunting and fishing to camping and wildlife watching, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) offers suggestions for friends and family who love being outdoors.
“From a lifetime sportsman’s license to an annual ParkPass, these gift ideas encourage Georgians to go outside and experience all that our state has to offer outdoors,” said Commissioner Chris Clark. “Not only do these special gifts promote conservation, but they’re ones that will be enjoyed long after the holidays are over.”
Annual ParkPass
Give your special loved one unlimited access to miles of hiking and mountain bike trails, kayaking and canoeing waterways, lakeside beaches and breathtaking mountain vistas. Perfect for friends who enjoy park hopping, the Annual ParkPass provides access to all 48 state parks without having to worry about paying parking fees for each visit. The Annual ParkPass costs $50 or $25 for seniors 62 and older. To purchase, call 770-389-7401.
Wildlife Conservation Fund
Help wildlife and your gift list by donating to the Nongame Wildlife Conservation Fund in honor of wildlife-loving family and friends. The Nongame Wildlife Section receives no state funding and instead relies on the Conservation Fund and other donations to support projects that protect nongame and endangered wildlife in Georgia. You or the person honored will receive a holiday card recognizing the gift. And you'll get more than just thanks, because donations are tax-deductible. Contact (770) 761-3035, (478) 994-1438 or www.georgiawildlife.com for details.
Lifetime Sportsman’s License
Bring joy to any outdoors enthusiast this holiday season with the gift of a lifetime sportsman’s license. The perfect gift for children and adults alike, this license will keep them in the woods or on the water as long as they like. Applications are available online but must be mailed or hand-delivered to a Wildlife Resources Division office along with required residency and age documentation. Find out more at www.georgiawildlife.com.
Membership to Friends of Georgia State Parks & Historic Sites
In addition to enjoying the benefits of a free Annual ParkPass, Historic Site passes, a free night of camping or round of golf, and many additional perks, a Friends membership helps protect Georgia’s natural and historic resources. Membership levels begin at $45 for an individual and $70 per family. Friends members support state parks and historic sites in a variety of avenues, including volunteering, contributing financially or seeking legislative support.
