After three straight years of receiving scores of 87 to 90, the Veramonte Sauvignon Blanc from Casablanca Valley in Chile has established itself as a front runner in the value wine department. The Casablanca Valley covers the western side of the coastal hills between Santiago and Valparasio. The valley is ten or twelve miles inland from the Pacific and gets those much desired warm days and cool nights.
We recently sampled the 2008 Veramonte Sauvignon Blanc Reserva along with a wonderful summertime seafood salad. The wine's aroma was very tropical, and the taste swirled with melon and peach flavors. The finish was long, crisp, and clean, with a pronounced citrus zest at the end. This really highlighted the flavors of the cold shrimp and crab in our salad!
For these hot summer nights a cold seafood salad with a cold crisp white wine, like the Veramonte, make for a perfect evening!
