Today, women go to a doctor and get Botox and fillers to look younger. Here’s another alternative. Go to a doctor in a jar – namely the products of Dr. Gregory Bays Brown, a former plastic and reconstructive surgeon and founder of RéViveSkincare.
“RéVive was founded by a doctor, and this is the first doctor-driven brand. He was the first doctor and scientist to apply the bioengineered version of EGF [Epidermal Growth Factor] into skincare,” says Hylton Lea, global skincare expert and senior vice-president for RéVive Skincare, in an exclusive interview with DawsonTimes.
“Many products say they will make you look more youthful, and there are other products that were made by doctors. But RéVive is not only founded by a plastic surgeon on the foundations of science, but RéVive uses Nobel Prize-winning technology. It will completely transform your skin.”
Dr. Brown had no intention of starting a skincare line. Rather he was conducting a $2 million study to explore the bioengineered molecule EGF and found it that the skin’s cells were renewing themselves giving a more youthful appearance. If the EGF properties could help healthy skin renew itself, what would happen with damaged or burned skin, he wondered.
He took to the lab working with burnt skin. “He would take a piece of skin in a Petri dish, add the EGF properties and grow a sheet of skin,” says Lea. “He would then roll it up and FedX it to hospitals to use with patients.”
At the same time, he was becoming frustrated that while he could remove wrinkles and bags via plastic surgery, the skin still looked as old as the patient. “He found that the skin was old looking and he started to get back to his work with EGF. The scientist who led the discovery of EGF went on to win a Nobel Peace Prize and Dr. Brown won the cosmetic patent for EGF in 1994,” says Lea.
EGF is a protein molecule made of amino acids (such as soy protein). In fact, it is made p specifically of 53 blocks of protein and is then reproduced – or bioengineered – exactly as it exists in the body. The end product is an absolutely pure protein molecule. Some of the products, such is Les Yeux Pressé, also contain FGF – Fibroblast Growth Factor – that increases collagen, which firms the skin.
Dr. Brown launched RéVive in 1997. The reason why the EGF properties work so much is because of the way skin works, Lea says. “In your 20’s, your skin regenerates itself every two to three weeks. You have fresh skin cells underneath the top layer of dead skin coming through. As we age, it takes about two months – not weeks – for fresh skin to emerge. So what you have is dead, dull skin. Even with exfoliation, it still takes that long for new skin to emerge.”
The trick is to speed up that process -- in other words, make slow-growing new skin cells grow faster. RéVive revs up the production of new skin production and exfoliates the dead skin. “Your face looks glowing and youthful,” says Lea. “I tell people to use it for one day and you will instantly see a difference. Most products say you’ll see a difference in a week or two. Not us. One day.”
RéVive has several product lines including four types of moisturizers and six serums. In addition, there are several special products such as an acne treatment gel, and special creams for the lips, hands, neck and eyes. The line also contains a cleanser, toner and microdermabrasion renewal system.
“RéVive is a unique line that shows results right away,” says Lea, who was born in South Africa. “Celebrities such as Kate Hudson, Victoria Beckham and Tom Cruise use our products. But you don’t have to be a movie star. However, by the time you reach 29, you need to start seriously paying attention to your skin. It’s never too late but it’s better to start early. That’s why RéVive is so important to women who want to look young. The products are simple, easy to use and they work. Your skin will look younger and fresher.”
