J. L. Lawson, 73, of Dawsonville, Lumpkin County, died Tuesday January 12, 2010 at the Chestatee Regional Hospital following a period of declining health.
Born December 25, 1936 in Sneedville, Tennessee to the late Dewey and Della Lawson, he had lived in Lumpkin County for the past 20 years having moved from Dawson County. Along with his wife, they owned and operated L & L Trucking, Inc. Mr. Lawson served in the U. S. Marine Corps for 16 years and was a veteran of Viet Nam. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Jean Johnson, Juanita Damewood, brother, Ed Lawson, and granddaughter, Michelle Scovil.
Surviving are his wife of 25 years, Barbara Lawson, Dawsonville; children, Chris and Sonya Lawson, Virginia Beach, VA, Gerald and Wendy Lawson, Virginia Beach, Joe Lawson, Virginia Beach, Teresa and Sam Scovil, California, Carrie and Alan Miller, Savannah; sisters and brother in law, Colleen and Jim Wood, Luttrell, TN, Sadie Davidson, Luttrell; driving companion, Hero; and 14 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday January 15, 2010 at 3:30 o’clock at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Ronald Pruitt will officiate. Interment will follow in Moss Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends after 6 p.m. Wednesday and all day Thursday at the funeral home.
