Quality Care for Children, a non-profit that works to improve the quality of child care in Georgia, is reminding parents and families that registration for Georgia’s Pre-K child care program begins February 1 and urging early signup due to expected heavy demand.
The state’s pre-K program, funded by the Georgia Lottery for Education, has served more than one million children since its inception in 1993. Today, there are more than 76,000 pre-K slots statewide – just over half of the number of children in Georgia who are four years old and could potentially use the service.
“If you are planning to register for Georgia Pre-K, it is time to enroll with your preferred provider; if you have a child that will be four by September 1, it is time to begin registering for Pre-K,” said Quality Care for Children CEO Pam Tatum.
Quality Care For Children is also urging sign-up for other child care services:
Head Start begins its enrollment for next school year in February for families who have a child who will be three by September 1
Many child care programs and private schools complete their registration during February for children under the age of 3
If you have a child in public school and will be needing summer camps – the best camps fill up register early.
Parents can call toll-free 877-ALL-GA-KIDS or go to the Quality Care For Children website
