The Georgia Department of Transportation announces construction will begin Wednesday night on the concrete rehabilitation of State Route (SR) 365 from SR 369 to SR 52 funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) in Hall County.
The project will remove the broken and cracked concrete from the corridor and replace it with new concrete. The work will occur overnights to minimize the impact to motorists. As weather permits, crews can work from 6:00 p.m. overnight to 6:00 a.m. Mondays through Thursdays. Weekend work hours are 8:00 p.m. overnight to 6:00 a.m. Fridays through Sundays. No work will occur during the day.
The estimated construction cost is $2.2 million on this 7.9 mile project. The completion date is May 31, 2010. Interstate Improvement Inc. is the project’s contractor.
“This project is routine maintenance work on a concrete roadway. It is similar to resurfacing an asphalt road. Crews will saw out the deteriorated sections of concrete and pour new concrete. The concrete will harden and then that section will be reopened to traffic. The contractor will use a specialized mix that hardens quickly,” explained Randall Davis, DOT District Construction Engineer.
Georgia DOT is responsible for 70 percent of Georgia’s $932 million in highway system ARRA funds. The remaining 30 percent is divided among the state’s 15 Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs) and designated rural areas. The MPOs, in conjunction with the Department, are funding projects from these respective allocations. The state also received $144 million in stimulus funds for public transit and Georgia DOT has awarded related local grants totaling approximately $39 million. Georgia is eligible for additional highway, rail and aviation grants from funds totaling $12.1 billion.
