Alexander "Baboiul" York, 57, died Sunday, Sept. 27, at his residence. Alexander was born in Cimpina Prahova, Romania, on Oct. 21, 1951. He moved to the United States in 1981 and lived in many different places, including Houston and New York, before settling in the Hinesville area in 1999. In 2005, he retired from a long career in the U.S. Army, which included service in the Gulf War, Kosovo and Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was awarded the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the Presidential Unit Citation, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal, the Southwest Asia Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star, and the Kosovo Campaign Medal. Alexander was a great husband and father who showed great love for his family and friends. He was a selfless man who would give all he had to help a friend in need. Survivors include his wife of 23 years, Catrinel Bogdanovici of Allenhurst; one son, Alexandru R. Bocioaca of Enterprise, Ala.; several cousins, nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Glennville with full military honors.
