Mr. Curtis L. Underwood Sr., 89, of Resaca died Thursday, Dec. 10, 2009, in Hamilton Medical Center.Curtis was born Feb. 6, 1920, in Polk County, Tenn., the son of the late George Washington and Pearl Tipton Underwood. He had lived in Gordon County since 1977 and was a successful businessman and former owner of the Pit Stop Grocery Store in Resaca. Curtis was preceded in death by his son Curtis L. Underwood, Jr.; grandson, Curtis Lee Underwood; granddaughter; Amanda Padgett; brother, Maynard L. Underwood; sister, June Tipton, and his mother-in-law Dessie Tipton.Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Dora D. Underwood of Resaca; one son, Jimmy Underwood and his wife Sandra of Calhoun; three daughters: Jean Manning and her husband Jerry of Dalton, Jamie Padgett and her husband Duane Cole of Blue Ridge, and Jill Ann Underwood and her husband Steve Fite of Ranger; his daughter-in-law; Helen Underwood of Martinsville, Ind., along with seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.Services will be conducted at 11a.m. today from the chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with the Rev. Bobby Causby and Jerry Manning officiating. Burial will be in Concord Baptist Cemetery in Fannin County. Pallbearers serving include Josh Padgett, Jerry Manning, Frank Barnhill, John, Phillip, and Allen Bailey.
