A flood watch continues for portions of Central Georgia, East Central Georgia, North Central Georgia, Northeast Georgia, Northwest Georgia and West Central Georgia.

From noon today through late tonight, a strong storm system located over Western Texas this morning will move East through Tuesday. Widespread rainfall, heavy at times, can be expected ahead of the system beginning Monday afternoon. Total rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are expected with around 3 inches possible in some areas of North Georgia.

Heavy rainfall is expected Monday afternoon and Monday night. This amount of rainfall will likely cause some rivers, streams and creeks to rise to levels that result in minor flooding. Some minor flooding could also occur in urban locations, especially near creeks and drainages that are low lying and susceptible to flooding.

Remember, a flood watch means that conditions are favorable for flooding, especially along larger rivers, streams and creeks. If You are in the watch area, check your preparedness requirements, especially if you have interests along area rivers and streams. Keep informed, and be ready for action if flooding is observed or if a flood warning is issued.
