At 9:35 p.m. EDT on 8/29/05, the National Weather Service in Peachtree City issued a flood watch for North and Central Georgia until Tuesday afternoon, 8/30/05. Tropical storm Katrina was headed through Mississippi and will move across Northwest Alabama tonight. Katrina still has a very large circulation, and tropical moisture associated with it will continue over Georgia tonight.

Rain bands with heavy thunderstorms have already dropped 1 to 2 inches with local amounts up to 3 inches in some areas, while other locations outside of these heavy rain bands have received less than 1/2 inch. Additional rain of 1 to 2 inches can be expected in some of the heavier rain bands overnight into Tuesday.

A flood watch means that conditions are favorable for flooding, especially along larger streams and rivers. If you are in the watch area, check your preparedness requirements, especially if you have interests along area rivers. Keep informed and be ready for action if flooding is observed or if a flood warning is issued.
