Alpharetta, GA…November 15th is America Recycles Day. On this day, we recognize the importance of recycling and using products made with recycled materials. The City of Alpharetta strongly encourages you to take a step forward by increasing your recycling efforts throughout this year. For recycling to truly be successful it is important to “close the loop” by buying items that contain recycled content.
Closed Loop Recycling decreases the quantity of material that needs to be purchased; decreases dependence on raw materials from the Earth; reduces the amount of non-recyclable product waste, keeping waste out of landfills; decreases the amount of money and resources needed to manufacture products; creates jobs and saves you money.
Consider taking the recycling pledge on November 15th to buy more recycled content products; increase recycling efforts at home, school, and work; or to participate in some other recycling-related event. The pledge card can be found on the City web site http://www.alpharetta.ga.us and must be postmarked or completed online by the 15th to qualify for National and State contests. You could win an Alaskan cruise for two if you are the grand prize winner.
§ Reduce, Reuse and Recycle Ideas:
§ Re-use or recycle whenever possible.
§ Find second uses for large items like electronic equipment or furniture.
§ Think about what you buy in your shopping - can you buy bulk or concentrate items? Is the packaging recyclable or made with recycled content?
§ Re-use bags and boxes for your shopping, reducing the need for new carrier bags.
§ Does your retailer offer 'bags for life'?
§ Compost your organic kitchen and garden waste.
§ Donate old clothing and household items.
