The arrests of two suspected drug traffickers and the seizure of more than $300,000 worth of cocaine last weekend was one of the largest busts in recent history for Richland County, Sheriff Leon Lott said.

Raul Villegas, 27, of Alpharetta, Ga., and Beverline Victoria Giron, 23, of Atlanta, were each charged with trafficking cocaine, Lott said. Villegas, who is from Mexico, is in the country illegally, he said.

Police are continuing to search for 14 suspects wanted in connection with gang and drug activity, the sheriff said.

The Sheriff’s Department and FBI received a tip that drugs were being delivered to the Columbia area Saturday. The 3 kilos of cocaine, which equals 7 pounds, was found in the dashboard of the couple’s 2006 Toyota Matrix.
