Alpharetta, GA…As you know, Georgia DOT is widening nearly 10 miles of the congested Georgia 400 roadway. This project includes adding traffic lanes inside of the existing lanes from Holcomb Bridge Road in Fulton County to McFarland Road in Forsyth County. It also includes the construction of sound walls throughout various locations within project perimeters and the widening of the Georgia 400 southbound exit ramp to Holcomb Bridge Road. As a reminder, the project is scheduled to be completed in September 2007.
The construction of sound walls began today and will continue through the summer and into next fall. The initial steps involves vegetation clearing which will be followed by a few months of necessary design and engineering work before walls are erected.
Georgia DOT crews are installing sound walls at five separate locations. The work will consist of the required clearing of a 25- ft wide path among existing vegetation along the outside edge of Georgia DOT Right of Way where the walls will be constructed. Clearing is required for sound wall installation. In some instances, dependent upon how much Right of Way we have at each location, there will be a more complete clearing of vegetation between the shoulder and the outside Right of Way boundary; in others, a dense vegetation buffer will remain between the shoulder and the cleared area.
The five locations for the walls are as follows:
Northbound between the Chattahoochee River and Holcomb Bridge Road, running roughly along the route of Raintree Drive
Although this work doesn’t include any impact to motorists, we want to share these project developments. For more information, contact jcrawford@gnfcc.com
