A developer who wants to build the biggest project in Roswell's history laid out his preliminary vision before a leadership group at two recent meetings.

According to several people who attended the meetings, developer Charlie Brown wants a large and dense mixed-use project that features several high-rise towers, pedestrian-only strolling streets and a residential focus on townhouses. The meeting was not open to the media.

The tradeoff for allowing high-rises in a city that has no tall buildings and no zoning for them is a lot of green space, with a walking trail, bike lanes and a path for golf carts, according to the attendees.

Brown held the meetings last Thursday and Sunday with the East Roswell Forum, an umbrella group of neighborhood leaders in east Roswell, where Brown wants to build his project, called Roswell East. It would be on 107 prime acres just east of Ga. 400, between Holcomb Bridge Road and the Chattahoochee River.

Brown says he does not want to go public with his plan until he's finished getting input from residents and makes final changes based on that feedback. East Roswell Forum members said Brown made it clear his plan could be "tweaked" between now and his planned rollout Nov. 28 at a meeting of the North Fulton Chamber of Commerce.
