Another north Fulton County community has taken the first step toward cityhood. On Wednesday, the state House approved the measure for John’s Creek, which could take $20 million from the county.
A bill in the state Senate which could also create two new cities in south Fulton.
Voters in south Fulton County have one commissioner on the board of seven. It is a constant battle for funds and improvements. Many believe that will change if south Fulton follows the lead of Sandy Springs and incorporates.
Contrary to popular opinion, north Fulton County is not the only place you can find expensive houses and a growing tax base. The much-maligned and ignored south end of Fulton County is twice the size of the city of Atlanta. Businesses are booming in a veritable paradise of 40,000 acres of greenspace.
The revolt of unincorporated communities may be the biggest issue facing the state’s local governments.
