Registration begins May 22 for Fulton County students wanting to take selected high school courses via the Internet. Registration ends June 6 and classes begin June 10.

Virtual Campus is an online learning program that provides students a unique opportunity to take courses over the Internet rather than inside a traditional classroom. Online classes are similar to traditional, face-to-face classes in that both have a teacher, lessons, homework, due dates, class discussions, and tests. The difference is that these activities occur over the Internet and students may attend class at any time of the day. They are, however, required to log in to class each school day.

Twelve courses are offered online this summer: American Literature and Composition, Algebra II, Biology, Economics, Geometry, Health, Personal Fitness, Physical Science, U.S. History, Web Page Design, World History, and World Literature.

Similar to summer and night school, students pay tuition for each online course taken. Each half credit costs $300.

Virtual Campus courses are designed for students, currently enrolled in a Fulton County high school, who want to make up a course or get ahead in earning credits toward graduation. The online courses encourage personal initiative, promote interactive learning and critical thinking, and offer an intellectual challenge to students selected for the program.

Before registering, students must first obtain permission from their school counselor and complete the “Is Online Learning for Me?” quiz posted on the Virtual Campus web site http://www.fultonk12virtualcampus.net/. They also must meet certain technical requirements and complete a pre-registration form available from their counselor.
