The National Merit Scholarship Corporation announced July 10 that seven recent Fulton County graduates have been named National Merit Scholars. In addition to the prestigious National Merit Scholar distinction, these students earned National Merit scholarships from participating colleges.
Evan Milano – Centennial High School
Hibisca Liaw – Chattahoochee High School
Alamgir Syed – Chattahoochee High School
Scott Berger – North Springs High School
Zachary Hennessee – North Springs High School
Abhinav Bhatnagar – Northview High School
John Cogdell – Roswell High School
This announcement brings Fulton’s total to 35 National Merit Scholars in the 2006 competition. Eleven students also were named National Achievement Scholars, a similar academic competition for African-American high school students, earlier in the school year.
All of the students first were identified through exceptionally high scores on the PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, which they took as juniors last school year. They have a record of high academic performance, are endorsed and recommended by their school principal, and have earned high SAT scores that confirm their earlier qualifying test performance.
