Roy Lee Cook, one of the original rocket boys portrayed in the best-selling novel, Rocket Boys by Homer Hickman, and the hit movie, October Sky, will be the guest speaker at the 1st Annual Roswell Reads Literary Luncheon. The event will be held at the Adult Recreation Center, 830 Grimes Bridge Road in Roswell, on Saturday, April 22, 2006 at 11:30 a.m.

The luncheon is part of Roswell Reads, a community reading program that included events focusing on the novel throughout the City over the last several months. Tickets for the event are $15 which includes a boxed lunch. They are available at the Roswell Library or at the City's Recreation and Parks Department reception desk.

Copies of Rocket Boys will be available for sale at the event and Mr. Cooke will sign after his speech. Other books by Homer Hickman will also be available for sale at the event, and Cooking the Coalwood Way will be available as well for $10. Money from the sale of the cookbook will go to the Coalwood community which has struggled since the mine closed in 1986.

Rocket Boys is the memoir of a young man's quest to build his own rockets and win the West Virginia State Science Fair and his aloof father's respect. Homer Hickman and his fellow rocket boys did win the state science fair in 1957, and he went on to fulfill his dream of becoming a NASA engineer.
