Six Fulton County seniors have been named National Merit Scholars in the annual National Merit Scholarship Program. In addition to the prestigious National Merit Scholar distinction, the students earned $2,500 cash scholarships to use at the college or university of their choice.

Kristina Falkenstrom – Chattahoochee High School

Alexander Jones – Chattahoochee High School

Catherine Rauschenberger – Chattahoochee High School

Trammell Jones – Milton High School

Ying Ying Lu – Northview High School

Bruce Yang – Northview High School

Eleven seniors also were named National Achievement Scholars, a similar academic competition for African-American high school students. The students either won a $2,500 cash prize or an equivalent scholarship from one of the corporations underwriting National Merit.

Nadira Williams – Centennial High School

Alecia Jefferson – Creekside High School

Jill Carty – North Springs High School

Jesse Huddleston – North Springs High School

Jamelah Neal – North Springs High School

Alexander Bennett – Northview High School

Christopher Robins – Riverwood High School

Dominique Shipley – Riverwood High School

Nakita Johnson – Roswell High School

Millard Collier – Westlake High School

Kimberly Hill – Westlake High School

All of the National Merit and National Achievement students first were identified through exceptionally high scores on the PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, which they took as juniors last school year. They have a record of high academic performance, are endorsed and recommended by their school principal, and have earned high SAT scores that confirm their earlier qualifying test performance.

Earlier in the school year, a round of semifinalists were named. Finalists then were announced in April and May. Both the National Achievement and National Merit competitions are conducted by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.
