Thirteen Fulton County Schools principals today were named “High Performance Principals” as part of Governor Sonny Perdue’s initiative to acknowledge school leadership and improve achievement at lower-performing schools.
More than 100 principals were identified as leaders whose schools are performing well above expectations. In Fulton County, the principals are:
Ronnie Wade, Centennial High School
Sonia Terry, Crabapple Crossing Elementary
Steven Curry, Findley Oaks Elementary School
Debbie Reeves, Haynes Bridge Middle School
Martha Zmijewski, Lake Windward Elementary School
Ron Tesch, Milton High School
Charlia Faulkner, New Prospect Elementary School
Ann Kingrea, Northwood Elementary School
Ed Spurka, Roswell High School
Martin Neuhaus, Shakerag Elementary School
Norris Gaynor, Summit Hill Elementary
Eleanor West, Tubman Elementary School
Elizabeth Fogartie, Webb Bridge Middle School
Under the High Performance Principals legislation (S.B. 468), which was signed into law in April at Roswell High School, the principals will receive a $15,000 supplement if they are hired as a principal in a school identified as “Needs Improvement” under the No Child Left Behind Act. The supplement may continue for two additional years.
Developed by the Georgia Department of Education, the criteria for determining a High Performance Principal includes:
Candidate’s school showed higher than expected scores on state Criterion-Referenced Competency Tests (CRCT) in four of five subjects assessed in elementary or middle school (Reading, English/Language Arts, Science, Mathematics and Social Studies).
Candidate’s school showed higher than expected scores on state Georgia High School Graduation Tests (GHSGT) in three of four subjects assessed in high schools (English/Language Arts, Science, Mathematics and Social Studies).
Candidate has been principal at the identified school for three consecutive years (2002-03, 2003-04, 2004-05)
Candidate was principal of a school that made Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) in 2005 and was not in Needs Improvement status for the 2005-06 school year.
Candidate met other necessary goals in regards to AYP, graduation rate, End-of-Course Test performance and a growth trend on SAT scores.
Note: Centennial High School’s Ronnie Wade, who is now the school system’s Assistant Superintendent for Secondary Curriculum and Instruction, and Ann Kingrea and Norris Gaynor, who are retiring, retain the honor as a “High Performance Principal” but are not eligible for the $15,000 supplement unless they accept a principal position at a Needs Improvement school.
