ATLANTA –The Art Institute of Atlanta is proud to present Artful Text, an exhibition of artworks where text – words, letters and/or numbers – is a major component of the visual content opening Sept. 18 the Janet S. Day Gallery. All artists are faculty, staff, and friends of The Art Institute of Atlanta. The artworks in this exhibition range across the media spectrum and include audio, digital media, letterpress, painting, fused glass, and mixed media works on paper.
Artists include Jeff Eisenberg, AniQuay Howell, Nicole Jacobs, Lauren Kucera, Kayanna Pace, Cassandra Pettiford, Nancy Rorabaugh, Kelly Thames, and Michael Thrush. Jeff Eisenberg’s multimedia installation of drawing, audio, and graphic design offers questions regarding memory and our understanding of language, both visual and textual. AniQuay Howell created elegant wax and mixed media typographic wall sculptures that remind us how the lines of fine art and design can blur. Michael Thrush and Nicole Jacob’s pop-inspired paintings are colorful, humorous, and thought-provoking. Lauren Kucera’s works on paper are delicate, expressive, and visually complex. Kelly Thames’s fused glass demonstrates the long-standing tradition of using words in craft-based art. The letterpress works of Kayanna Pace, Cassandra Pettiford, and Nancy Rorabaugh each have a unique take on the exceptional beauty of letterforms.
This exciting exhibit is on display through October 6 in the Janet S. Day Gallery at The Art Institute of Atlanta and is open to the general public. Gallery hours are Mon –Thurs,
9 am–8 pm; Fri., 9 am– 4 pm; and Sat, 9 am– 3 pm. The artists’ reception will be held on Thursday evening, October 5, from 5 to 7 pm. For more information or directions, call 770.394.8300 or 1.800.275.4242, or visit www.artinstitutes.edu/atlanta.
