Fulton County residents can dispose of old tires at six collection sites countywide without paying a fee during Scrap Tire Amnesty Day, Saturday, December 2, 2006.

Passenger car and pickup truck tires—up to 20 tires per household—can be dropped off between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. at containers strategically located throughout the County. Commercial and farm equipment tires will not be accepted.

The scrap tire collection project is being conducted by the Fulton County Department of Health and Wellness with a grant from the Georgia Environmental Protection Division. The grant was awarded earlier this year as part of the West Nile Virus Prevention program. Old tires are breeding grounds for mosquitoes, which carry the virus.

Without the amnesty project, residents would pay as much as $3 per tire to properly dispose of used tires at disposal or recycling centers.

The Amnesty Day scrap tire bin locations are:

  • 11570 Maxwell Road, Alpharetta

  • 2244 Metropolitan Parkway, Atlanta

  • 1685 Norman Berry Drive, East Point

  • 2234 Harvard Avenue, College Park

  • 5600 Stonewall Tell Road, College Park

  • 595 Main Street, Palmetto

For more information, call the Fulton County Department of Health and Wellness Environmental Health Services Division at (404) 730-1301.
