WHO:
SET YOUR SIGHTS ON A STAR-FILLED THANKSGIVING
Mark Your Calendar for the 59th Lighting of the Great Tree at Macy’s
There will be stars in the sky, stars on the Great Tree and an all-star lineup this Thanksgiving at the 59th Lighting of the Great Tree at Macy’s at Lenox Square Thanksgiving Night, Thursday November 23, 2006. Star-gazers will see LeAnn Rimes, Third Day, George Huff, a special performance from Cirque du Soleil and much more. The stars will shine on the Air Tran Airways Stage and the all-new Star Stage! The staging has been re-vamped, enlarged and brought out into the parking lot allowing everyone there better views of the action. The jumbo-tron screens on each side of the stage will give even those in the back rows a front-row view.
There’s something for everyone this year, this year’s talent line up includes:
LeAnn Rimes - LeAnn Rimes has made the rare transition from child prodigy to seasoned artist, establishing herself as a household name all by the young age of 23!
Third Day - Through a ten-plus year career, continues to offer up their unique blend of gutsy, yet sensitive music tailor-made for the season and the Lighting of the Great Tree at Macy’s.
George Huff - Fans of the hit television show American Idol’s third season watched George Huff survive two almost eliminations securing a spot in the Top 5 contestants.
Aslyn- Atlanta's own singer/songwriter.
A Special Performance from Cirque Du Soleil - Cirque’s appearance at this year’s tree lighting is from their newest touring show Corteo. The featured performer is Jonas Woolverton, one of four artists who perform solos and group figures on Cyr wheels.
Macy’s All-Star Holiday Choir - Making their debut at last year’s event, the 50-member Macy’s All-Star Holiday Choir returns combining talent from all over the state.
Star Light, Star Bright, Macy’s Lights up Atlanta’s Sky Every Night!
But the biggest star of the night is the Great Tree itself! According to tradition, the best great trees are solitary white pines - an independent white pine grows straighter and fuller than ones surrounded by other vegetation. This year’s towering beauty has a décor package consisting of 125 Red Macy's Stars and 125 Snowflakes complemented with the traditional metallic balls and illuminated spheres.
The Lighting of the Great Tree, an Atlanta tradition since 1948, began as a holiday gift from Rich's to the people of Atlanta. Since that time, this event continues to be a Thanksgiving Day tradition for thousands of Georgia's families.Over the years this holiday event has captured the cover of Time magazine, has been included in national television specials like HGTV’s Christmas Across America, and has received international exposure on CNN. Millions of viewers across the United States have enjoyed this Atlanta holiday tradition as a result of its national syndication.
Before, After and During

But the evening's excitement isn't just limited to the stage and sky, the parking lot will highlight our sponsor’s holiday presence under the Great Tree.
