Alpharetta, GA…The Clean Water Campaign and Georgia Tech Research Institute are working together to conduct an Automotive Repair and the Environment Workshops in counties throughout metro Atlanta that will be held in March and April. Alpharetta is offering this workshop on May 4th, 2:00 PM at the Alpharetta Engineering/Public Works Department located at 1790 Hembree Road Alpharetta, GA 30004-2041
The free workshops are designed for automobile service shops, trade associations, automobile service organizations, organizations that service fleets and are open to the public.
The workshops will focus on best management practices for handling automobile fluids, recycling fluids and preventing pollutants from reaching our rivers, lakes and streams. This is critical to address because over 1,000 miles of stream are impaired due to polluted stormwater runoff. This pollution occurs when rainwater runs off the land and picks up pollutants such as motor oil. It flows off down driveways and streets then flows into storm drains or directly into waterways. Preventing these pollutants from entering waterways is key in protecting our rivers, lakes and streams.
These workshops will help you to save money at your shop, keep you informed about the latest information about how to manage hazardous and non-hazardous chemicals, prevent environmental regulation violations, and prevent water pollution from being generated by your shop. Alpharetta’s Compliance Inspector will also be in attendance to assist you with specific questions regarding our compliance program.
The presenters of the workshop will be James Lockhardt, Environmental Inspector of the City of Roswell and Eddie Ehlert, president of Mazdonly. By attending the free workshop, you will receive a manual called the Automotive Repair and the Environment.
Advanced registration for the workshops is required. The registration form is available on the Clean Water Campaign website at www.cleanwatercampaign.com. Click on the Auto Service Registration link. If you have any questions regarding the workshop, please call 404-463-3259.
