ATLANTA – Any mother raising a child who was diagnosed with cancer truly represents a “quiet hero”.

Approximately 200 mothers from across Metro Atlanta will be honored at the “Tribute to Our Quiet Heroes” luncheon, an event hosted by Chris Glavine, wife of baseball superstar Tom Glavine. The luncheon, which takes place at 11 a.m., on Saturday, September 9, at the Westin Buckhead Atlanta, pays tribute to the mothers of children with cancer whose love and tireless dedication guide their families through an unimaginable journey. The event benefits CURE Childhood Cancer and CureSearch National Childhood Cancer Foundation.

TV actress and model Hunter Tylo, who appears on The Bold and the Beautiful will speak at the event. Hunter found herself thrust into the world of childhood cancer after the birth of her fourth child when her daughter was diagnosed with retinoblastoma, a deadly eye cancer. She lost her eye at age three, three days after her diagnosis.

“Childhood cancer is a devastating disease, claiming the lives of more children under the age of 20 than any other illness,” said Kristin Connor, executive director of CURE Childhood Cancer. “Needless to say, the burden placed on families of children with cancer can be overwhelming. Many times, that burden is carried most heavily by the mothers. This event honors these deserving mothers and gives them one afternoon all to themselves.”
