A message from Mark McKinnon, GDOT
Here is the latest on Jones Bridge and Abbotts Bridge Roads Intersection Project.
Paving is moving along at a good pace. You have probably noticed that most of the stone is completely covered with asphalt. I have had several questions about why we can't put traffic on the new asphalt. The primary reason is that there is more paving to do and it takes more time to keep switching the traffic control around than to leave it in place until the paving is done. As you may know, there are several layers of asphalt that need to be placed and the contractor is just now finishing the second layer. Remember, whenever we switch the traffic control, we also have to adjust striping in order to maintain the safety aspect of the intersection. All of this (traffic control adjustment and striping changes) is very time-consuming and things will move faster if we leave in place what we have until the appropriate time.
Also, a few of you have recently sent me questions about signal timing. Our traffic engineers have studied the traffic patterns during the rush hours and during the off-peak hours and the Jones Bridge/Abbotts Bridge signal timing cannot be adjusted anymore at this point. Once all of the pavement is down and the sensors are placed back in the pavement, the timing improves. I have asked our signal engineers to look at the signal timing down toward the Addison Place intersection.
What you will be seeing in the next few weeks is the paving crew moving out for a short time as the curb and gutter crews come in to finish the remaining curb and to complete the sidewalk work. This work must be done before the paving can be completed.

Mark D. McKinnon

Commissioner Riley to Host Community Meeting on September 14, 2006 for Resident of Unincorporated “Pockets” Fulton County District 3 Commissioner Lynne Riley will hold a community meeting on Thursday, September 14 at 7 p.m. to address the needs of residents in the few remaining unincorporated “pockets” in North Fulton County.
The meeting will be held in the cafeteria of Webb Bridge Middle School, 4455 Webb Bridge Road, Alpharetta.
The County has identified approximately 850 properties that could remain unincorporated after the pending incorporation of Johns Creek and Milton. These properties are not within the boundaries of the new cities and have not yet submitted annexation petitions to any other city.
Commissioner Riley and other presenters will discuss the options available to property owners in these areas. Representatives from Fulton County and the cities of Alpharetta, Roswell will attend the meeting. Individuals representing the interests of the pending cities of Milton and Johns Creek will also be present.
“We hope to make the transition to the new cities as smooth as possible for all County residents – including those outside the cities of Milton and Johns Creek,” said Commissioner Riley. “My goal is to get all parties in the same room to help residents make an informed decision.”
For more information about the meeting, contact Commissioner Riley’s office at 404-730-8213.
Fulton County To Host “FAMILY 411: NEIGHBORHOODS IN ACTION”
Town hall meetings to take place throughout Fulton County beginning Tuesday, September 12, 2006.
The Fulton County Human Services Department’s Office of Children & Youth has announced the 1st Annual Family 411: Neighborhoods in Action, a series of town hall meetings that
will go district by district in an effort to inform, educate and empower communities to get involved in programming for young people. The series of events will include interactive displays by all F.R.E.S.H. (Fulton Roundtable Expanded Services Headquarters) grant service providers. F.R.E.S.H. is a grant program managed in the Human Services Department whose mission is to distribute funds to non-profit agencies serving children and youth in each district of the County. The agencies serve all Fulton County residents and funds are distributed equally among each district the County serves.
The Family 411 events will also focus on determining needs within each County district, by holding open forum discussions with Fulton officials and Community Advisory Board members, before
the next grant cycle begins. “Fulton is dedicated to providing services throughout the County that help develop the skills needed to succeed in the future to children and youth”, said Melinda Pruitt, Division
Manager for Children and Youth, “Family 411 is a perfect way for us to identify the needs of each district independently, in order to ensure the services we are providing, are still the services that people
need.”
