WHO:

PEDS, metro Atlanta’s pedestrian advocacy organization, with support from the Georgia Governor's Office of Highway Safety.
WHAT:

On November 30, plainclothes police in Decatur, Georgia State University, Atlanta, and Gwinnett County will use crosswalks while uniformed officers ticket drivers who fail to stop. In short, the next pedestrian drivers see in a crosswalk just might be a cop. So drivers beware: stop for pedestrians in crosswalks. It’s the law.

Last year, over 2,000 people (2,115) were hit by drivers in Georgia. 133 of them were killed. PEDS reminds drivers: STOP for pedestrians in crosswalks, or risk getting a ticket. The pedestrian you see in a crosswalk might be a police officer. So stop. It’s the law.

VISUALS & INTERVIEW OPPORTUNITIES

  • Catch the action as uniformed officers pull over drivers who fail to stop for plainclothes police crossing the street.
  • Hear the lame excuses of drivers who disregard Georgia’s crosswalk laws.
  • Interview wheelchair users in Decatur – representatives of DisAbility Link – who are especially passionate about making drivers aware of the laws that protect pedestrians.
