To the community:
With the recent catastrophe of Hurricane Katrina in the Gulf Coast, many of our donors
and partner agencies have asked about the United Way of Forsyth County’s Annual Fall Campaign.
We have begun our campaign as planned, and some workplace campaigns are in motion. We needed to start the campaign as scheduled, for it is crucial to the stability of our health and human service agencies serving Forsyth County. Reaching our $1,150,000 campaign goal is very important for it will allow our funded programs to focus on supporting vulnerable and aging populations; helping children and youth succeed; strengthening and supporting families; promoting self-sufficiency; and promoting health and safety.
We grieve for those impacted by the devastation of Hurricane Katrina and are in full support of the American Red Cross disaster relief efforts. We are aware that evacuees have come to Forsyth County and their need is great. Our office and offices of our partner agencies have been overwhelmed with calls from people searching for contact information to receive help, and from people offering to help financially or by volunteering. Local agencies that are supported by United Way will have to provide services for evacuees and our campaign helps to fund those local agencies.
All United Way agencies this year will be challenged to meet existing needs, in addition to responding to the long-term recovery needs that affected communities will be facing down the road. The generosity of local residents is needed even more than ever this year, for months to come, and human services needs will be greater than ever.
To our donors, we understand that you may have just given to the Red Cross for Hurricane Relief. Please be assured that those funds were greatly appreciated and will be used as intended to help evacuees; however, the needs of our local community still exist and we need your continued support to be able to meet the needs of our local community, including those evacuees that may want to call Forsyth County home.
We can never say it enough to thank you for your continued and generous support of the United Way of Forsyth County.
Thank you,
The Board of Directors
United Way of Forsyth County
