There's a place right here in Cumming that lovingly embraces women who have lost their way for whatever reason or who have suffered through addiction problems and need nurturing guidance and support to rejoin the society as wonderfully healed individuals. This place is called Abba House, and while it may exist obscurely within our County, this haven accomplishes so much for many women and their families. Just some of Abba House's milestones this year:

  • One young woman has just graduated from the ministry and another woman and her three children will graduate in early September. Her husband who has been at No Longer Bound, a Christian program here in Cumming, will also graduate next month. Abba House has worked as a team with the leadership at No Longer Bound to handle issues in this couple's marriage and with their children so they may have a chance for a new start in life.
  • House capacity has increased from 8 to 15 women and children.
  • Ministry has increased from two homes to three.
  • Abba's Treasures has increased from 1,000 square feet to 6,500 square feet.
  • The year-to-date sales at Abba's Treasures has increased 100% over the sales from the same period last year.
  • Three families are at the "Transition House." One is a family led by a graduate, who is a single mom with her two children. Another graduate has her older parents living with her as she cares for them. She also volunteers at Abba House. The ministry has also been helping a couple trying to get their feet back on the ground after job changes.

More News from Abba House

Laurie McCafferty has been named new "Volunteer Cordinator" Last year Laurie McCafferty began serving as the food ministry cordinator for Abba House. She has not only been a servant to AH, but has personally staffed the food ministry, which primarily serves single moms with children each Thursday afternoon. In August, Laurie took her new responsibility as Volunteer Cordinator. She and her husband, Howard, attend North Lanier Baptist Church, a church in Cumming that has been instrumental in completing several large projects at the ministry. "I really can't help myself, because God has created a love in my heart for these women and their children as I see the powerful transformation He is doing in their lives, " Laurie exclaims. Everyone at Abba House is delighted to have Laurie as amember of the team.

Northland Church Volunteer Day

In August, Reconciled, a Christian group of motorcyclists at Northland Church in Cumming, sent a team of twelve people -- electrician, carpenters, computer experts, etc. -- to work on various projects at the ministry. (Northland is the church where Abba House women and children attend regularly.)
