The American Red Cross has provided financial assistance to nearly 529,000 of the estimated 900,000 families affected by Hurricane Katrina and is currently assessing the families affected by Hurricane Rita.
Over $521 million has been issued by the Red Cross in the relief effort. The Red Cross is also working with a large network of governmental partners and relief agencies to aid in the provision of relief to those affected.

The Northeast Georgia Chapter has assisted over 1000 families at the Service Center located at 2275-A Browns Bridge Rd, Gainesville. The center has also provided over $875,000 in assistance to the families. A Red Cross shelter at the Baptist Conference Center in Toccoa is housing approximately 40 individuals from Hurricane Rita.
This week, the Service Center will change hours of operation as the number of evacuees decline. The Service Center will be closed on Saturday and Sunday but will reopen on Monday with hours of Monday – Friday 9:00 am – 3:00 pm until further notice.
For information or directions to the Service Center, please call (770) 297-0119 or 1-800-282-1722.
