Students arriving at Vickery Creek Elementary school in South Forsyth County this morning were immediately redirected to Vickery Creek Middle School next door, due to an alleged gas leak at the Elementary school. Fire trucks arrived on the scene just before 7:30 a.m. to investigate.

According to school sources, the elementary students were taken to the middle school as a safey precaution and will be transferred back over to Vickery Creek Elementary once an okay is given by the Forsyth County Fire Department.

Several Vickery Creek Elementary teachers and staff were stationed -- in 26-degree weather -- in the schools' parking lots and at Post Road, redirecting school buses and all other vehicles to help disperse information and to minimize confusion and traffic backups.

This occurrence will mean an even shorter day of classes for Vickery Creek Elementary students, as today is Early Release for the County's schools.
