The National Weather Service in Peachtree City has issued a flood watch for North Central Georgia, Northeast Georgia, West Central Georgia, Northwest Georgia and Central Georgia until this afternoon.

Tropical storm Katrina will continue to move north through Tennessee and toward the Ohio River Valley today. Katrina still has a very large circulation, and tropical moisture associated with it will continue to stream into Georgia today.

Rain bands containing thunderstorms with heavy rain have already dropped 1 to 2 inches with local amounts up to 3 inches in some areas, while other locations outside of these heavy rain bands have received less than 1/2 inch. Additional rain of 1 to 2 inches can be expected in some of the heavier rain bands today until the system finally pulls to the north and dry air works in from the west later this evening.

A flood watch means that conditions are favorable for flooding, especially along larger streams and rivers. If you are in the watch area, check your preparedness requirements, especially if you have interests along area rivers. Keep informed and be ready for action if flooding is observed or if a flood warning is issued.
