As part of the company’s Safe Neighborhood Heroes 2005 program, Cumming Wal-Mart officials presented the Forsyth County Fire Department Wednesday with a check for $1,000. The Fire Department will continue the tradition of returning with these funds to Wal-Mart and purchasing child safety seats. Those seats will be distributed in the community during various child safety seat inspection events throughout the upcoming year.

Wal-Mart Store Manager Russ Hilsher and Community Involvement Coordinator Crystal Loggins presented the check to Deputy Fire Chief Dwight Clark, Firefighter/EMT Todd Sliger, Firefighter/EMT Shane Lively and Firefighter Scott Madsen on Wednesday afternoon.

"It is truly an honor to be recognized by Wal-Mart with this generous grant," said Forsyth County Fire Chief Danny Bowman. "We are certainly appreciative of Wal-Mart’s recognition of our troops’ efforts to help keep this community safe."

The Safe Neighborhood Heroes program recognizes the efforts of community safety champions – fire, rescue, police and EMS organizations - whose efforts make the community a safer place to live and work. Those believed to be making a positive impact in the community are selected as grant recipients.

Wal-Mart and SAMS CLUB facilities are donating more than $8 million to fire departments, police teams and emergency response units across the country. Through this grant, Wal-Mart has given in excess of $25 million to safety teams since 2002.
