The Red Cross Service Center, located at 2275 – A Browns Bridge Rd is seeing a continual flow of evacuees needing assistance. As of Monday, September 19th, 844 families have been provided assistance totaling over $682,000.

The Red Cross would like to encourage other organizations that are sheltering evacuees to bring the families to the Service Center for assistance if they have not yet done so. The Northeast Georgia Chapter of the American Red Cross Katrina Evacuee Service Center will maintain the hours of Monday – Saturday 9:00 am – 3:00 pm until further notice.

The Red Cross is working with many local agencies that offer assistance with the evacuee families. The Red Cross gives referrals for the evacuated families to receive clothing, household items and food from the Salvation Army at no charge. The Potters House is also given as a referral for clothing and furniture. The Girl Scouts of Northeast Georgia have provided hundreds of “Comfort Kits” that include a toothbrush and toothpaste, razors, combs, shampoo, deodorant and other personal items. The Boys & Girls Club has offered an after school program at no charge for the children of evacuated families.

For more information or directions to the Service Center please call 770-297-0119 or (800) 282-1722.

The American Red Cross has established a registry to help families locate their loved ones. Evacuees and loved ones separated by Hurricane Katrina should go to www.redcross.org or call 1-877-LOVED-1S to join the registry.

When you help the Red Cross, you help America.

Financial donations are still the most needed and effective way to help the people of this disaster and can be sent to the Northeast Georgia Chapter - American Red Cross at P. O. Box 3370, Gainesville GA, 30503. Or call 1-800-282-1722 for more information.
