Inmate Collapses and Dies in Jail

A 53 year-old Cumming man collapsed and died in a holding cell at the Forsyth County jail yesterday, Sheriff Ted Paxton has announced.

The man, identified as Jackie Monroe Almond, had been admitted to the jail and was in a holding cell when he collapsed. An ambulance arrived within minutes and Almond was transferred to Northside Forsyth Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Family members stated that Almond had an existing cardiac medical condition.
