A Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office deputy recently won a number of medals at the annual Police & Fire Games, Sheriff Ted Paxton announced today.

Sgt. John Thompson, who is an Investigator in the agency’s Criminal Investigations Division, won a total of five medals in the competition, which took place June 20-22 in Carrollton, GA.

The medals won by Sgt. Thompson included:

Bronze in the 5-K race; Silver in the 1 mile race; Silver in the 400 meter race; Bronze in the Long Jump competition and Bronze in the overall “Toughest Cop Competition”.

The competition, now in its 20th year, includes police officers and firefighters from all over Georgia. Each year, several hundred public safety officers compete for the coveted prizes. This is the second year in which Sgt. Thompson has competed. Last year he won six medals, including one Gold and five Silver medals.

The purpose of the Games is to promote physical fitness and camaraderie among public safety agencies throughout the State of Georgia, Sgt. Thompson said.
