The American Red Cross now has a service center open in Gainesville and is asking for help in assisting hurricane victims while they wait to be processed.

If you’d like to hand out snacks or read and play with children, your help would be greatly appreciated. You do not have to be a certified trained Red Cross member.

Those interested in offering their time may call the Red Cross at 1-800-503-2899 to get scheduled.

Assistance is needed 9 a.m. -3 p.m, seven days a week.

The Gainesville Service Center is located at 2275-A Browns Bridge Road. Kim Price is the local Red Cross representative and may be reached at (678) 947-9900.

Simply reading with a child who has been displaced from home due to Hurricane Katrina is a great gift you can provide on behalf of the Red Cross.
